“Where is your court order?” — Malami confronts EFCC Operatives during Abuja raid

Former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami on Monday, March 23, 2026, in Abuja confronted operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission who arrived at his residence, questioning their authority to carry out actions on his property during an early morning operation.

The incident, which was captured in a video circulating online, showed Malami engaging the officials in a tense exchange as he demanded proof of legal approval for their presence. He insisted that the operatives present a valid court order before taking any action, raising concerns about whether they had the right to proceed.

According to the situation seen in the footage, the EFCC operatives maintained that the property was under investigation and said they were acting within their mandate, including plans to mark the building.

Malami, however, argued that any legal backing previously granted for such action was no longer valid, adding that the order being referenced did not clearly authorise what the officials were attempting to do.

He also questioned why the operatives had earlier visited another of his properties the same day before arriving at the residence where the confrontation occurred. The exchange continued as he insisted that the matter was already before a court and asked the officials to show specific approval allowing them to act.

The development followed a separate security operation earlier in the day involving operatives of the Department of State Services, who reportedly visited another property linked to the former minister in Abuja. That visit came shortly after former Vice President Atiku Abubakar had been at the residence for a meeting that lasted about an hour.

The events added to growing attention around the situation, as security agencies continue activities connected to ongoing investigations involving the former government official.
