The police in Abuja on Tuesday arrested four men for allegedly posing as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and using the false identity to defraud victims of more than N150 million through fake land deals.

One of the suspects, Yashim Kajang, was first arrested in the Federal Capital Territory after he was linked to a scheme involving a retired military officer, Major General A.K. Ibrahim, and other victims. Investigators said Kajang claimed he had direct links with the minister and officials in the land department, which he used to convince people that he could secure land allocations for them.

He allegedly collected large sums of money from victims by promising to process documents for a specific plot of land located in Guzape II Cadastral Zone in Abuja. The victims were made to believe that the transaction was genuine because of the supposed involvement of top government officials.

During questioning, Kajang reportedly revealed the names of three other individuals said to be part of the operation. The police later arrested the suspects, identified as Stephen Mhambe, Danladi Jatau, and Terngu Ipaven.
According to findings from the investigation, the other suspects were responsible for providing information and details about land locations used in carrying out the fraud. Their roles helped create the impression that the transactions were real and properly backed.
Authorities confirmed that all four suspects are currently in custody while investigations continue. The police are working to uncover more details about the case and determine whether more victims or accomplices are involved.
