The South West zone of the Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday held its zonal congress in Lagos, where new members of its Zonal Working Committee were elected to lead the party in the region, while also supporting the upcoming national convention in Abuja.
The congress took place at Airport Hotel in Ikeja, bringing together party leaders and stakeholders from across the zone. During the event, Engr Deji Doherty emerged as Chairman, with Oluwole Omotaje as Secretary. Other officials elected include Obe Gbolaro as Treasurer, David Adedamola as Legal Adviser, and Gbadamosi Babatunde as Financial Secretary. Akinloye Oyeniyi was also returned as Zonal Publicity Secretary, alongside other members who will serve in different roles within the committee.
The gathering was conducted peacefully, with party members showing unity as they prepared for future political activities. The newly elected officials are expected to coordinate party affairs in the South West and work towards building stronger support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Party stakeholders at the congress also expressed support for the planned national convention scheduled to hold in Abuja from March 29 to March 30. The event is expected to produce new national leaders and shape the direction of the party as it prepares for the next election cycle.
The South West zone remains an important part of the party’s structure, and the outcome of the congress is seen as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen its position across the country.
Members present at the event shared optimism that the party will move forward in unity as it prepares for future contests.
