His confirmation followed his screening by the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), which reviewed nominees submitted for key positions in the commission.

Abe, a former lawmaker who represented Rivers East, was granted a smooth screening process in line with the usual practice for ex-members of the National Assembly. After the committee completed its work, it presented its report to the Senate, which then gave final approval.

The lawmakers also confirmed Sunday Adebayo and Paul Yaro as non-executive commissioners of the commission. Their appointments are part of efforts to fill positions on the board and strengthen the leadership of the regulatory body.

The nominations were earlier forwarded by Bola Tinubu for consideration. Following the Senate’s decision, Abe and the other appointees are expected to take up their roles in overseeing activities in the upstream petroleum sector.
