Tinubu calls Plateau governor over Jos attack

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday in Abuja invited Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, for a meeting following the recent attack in Angwan Rukuba area of Jos North. The invitation came after fresh violence in the state, which led to loss of lives and raised security concerns.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made this known during a press briefing in Abuja. He said the President had already met with top security and intelligence officials to review the situation and decide on further actions.

He explained that security forces responded quickly after receiving reports of the attack. Troops under Operation Enduring Peace were deployed to the affected area, where they secured major routes and carried out search operations to track those behind the incident. He added that these actions helped bring the situation under control and stop further violence.

The minister said the steps taken are part of wider efforts by the Federal Government to maintain peace in Plateau State and other troubled areas in the North-Central region. According to him, security agencies have continued operations in vulnerable communities, with more patrols, surveillance, and joint missions between the military and police.

He also stated that the Federal Government is working closely with the Plateau State Government to restore calm and support investigations. As part of local efforts, the state government imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North to prevent further unrest and protect residents.

The minister noted that the incident is being treated as a criminal act within a conflict-prone area and not a total collapse of national security. He said authorities are focused on finding those responsible and bringing them to justice.

He urged Nigerians to remain calm, support security agencies, and avoid spreading unverified information that could worsen tensions. He added that the government remains committed to protecting lives and ensuring peace across the country.
