The Federal Government on Wednesday announced that Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6, 2026, will be observed as public holidays across Nigeria to mark the Easter celebration.

The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who conveyed the decision on behalf of the government.

According to the announcement, April 3 will be observed as Good Friday, while April 6 will mark Easter Monday, both recognised as part of the Christian calendar.

The minister congratulated Christians within Nigeria and those living abroad, noting that the season is a time for reflection on values such as sacrifice, love, patience, and forgiveness, which are linked to the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

He also called on Nigerians to live peacefully with one another and remain united, adding that the period serves as a reminder of the need for harmony and shared responsibility in building the country.
The government, he said, remains focused on implementing policies that will support national growth and improve the well-being of citizens.
He concluded by wishing Christians a peaceful and joyful Easter celebration as they observe the holiday.
