Wike Sets May Deadline for Abuja Road Projects

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said that major road projects in Abuja will be completed by May 2026 for commissioning by Bola Ahmed Tinubu as part of activities marking his third year in office.

Wike gave this update in Abuja after inspecting several ongoing projects across key areas, including works handled by China Geo-Engineering Corporation, Arab Contractors, and Gilmor Engineering Nigeria Limited.

He explained that the inspection was part of efforts to ensure contractors meet agreed timelines and deliver quality work. According to him, the projects are expected to be ready by the end of May, and current progress shows that contractors are working in line with expectations.

The minister said he was satisfied with the speed and standard of the construction so far, adding that regular visits would continue to keep the work on track. He noted that monitoring would be done frequently to make sure deadlines are not missed.

Wike also stated that the government would continue to engage contractors while ensuring they have the support needed to complete the projects. He said governance should be reflected in visible development that people can see and benefit from.

He pointed out that efforts by contractors to create alternative routes during construction have helped reduce traffic challenges for residents. According to him, this has made movement easier and improved public response to the projects.

The minister added that the presence of residents around the project areas shows growing interest and acceptance, which serves as encouragement for the administration to complete the work as planned.
