Jigawa man arrested for setting father ablaze

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Kabiru Nuhu, for allegedly setting his 60-year-old father ablaze in Kazaure Local Government Area of Jigawa State. The incident happened on April 1, 2026, around 6:30 a.m. in Magama Quarters of Kazaure town, after police received a distress call and rushed to the scene.

According to police findings, the suspect reportedly poured a substance believed to be petrol on his father and set him on fire. When officers arrived, they found the victim in a critical state, while the suspect also had burn injuries on parts of his body, including his forehead, arms, and toes.

The injured man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment but later died from the injuries sustained in the attack. Following the incident, the suspect was taken into custody by the police.

Authorities disclosed that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for further inquiry and legal action, as the suspect is expected to face charges related to the killing of his father.


The Commissioner of Police in the state, Haruna Yahaya, condemned the act and assured residents that investigations are ongoing to determine the reason behind the attack. He also advised members of the public to resolve disputes without violence and report early signs of domestic issues to security agencies.


The police command reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring that those involved in criminal acts are brought to justice.
