The Kaduna State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised concerns over what it describes as political targeting of former governor Nasir El-Rufai and other opposition figures in the state. The party claims that these actions are part of a wider plan to weaken El-Rufai’s political influence.

The allegations came during a press briefing led by Professor Muhammad Sani-Bello, a former state Commissioner for Education. According to the party, the ongoing political pressure includes the omission of El-Rufai from ministerial appointments, legal proceedings at the Kaduna State House of Assembly, and the arrest or detention of some of his associates.

The ADC identified several individuals it says have been affected, including Bashir Saidu, Ja’afar Ibrahim Sani, Jimi A. Lawal, and Aisha Galadima. The party further claims that agencies such as the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and the Department of State Services are being used selectively to enforce laws against opposition figures while ignoring others.

The party expressed worry over what it sees as prolonged detentions, sudden changes in bail conditions, and legal harassment, interpreting these actions as politically motivated rather than grounded in legitimate law enforcement. ADC called on authorities to ensure fairness and to avoid actions that could undermine democratic practices in Kaduna State.
The party’s statements come amid growing tensions between political actors in the state as the 2027 elections approach, with ADC asserting that such pressure could affect the broader democratic process.
