Bauchi APC rejects Bala Mohammed’s entry bid

In Abuja on Tuesday night, members of the Bauchi caucus of the All Progressives Congress said they would not accept Bala Mohammed into the party, stating that his possible move to join them is not welcome at this time.

The decision followed a meeting by caucus members who reviewed recent political developments involving the governor and his reported plans to leave his current party.

The issue came up after reports that the governor had earlier indicated interest in leaving the Peoples Democratic Party and was also linked to possible alignment with the African Democratic Congress. This followed a recent visit to the Bauchi Government House by the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, alongside Abba Yusuf, where discussions were held with him behind closed doors.

After the caucus meeting, its chairman and senator representing Bauchi North, Sama’ila Dahuwa, said members agreed that allowing the governor into the party could create problems for unity and affect its chances in future elections. The group also pointed to past remarks by the governor which they believe were directed against the APC and Bola Tinubu, noting that he had not taken steps to address those issues or reconcile with party members.

The caucus also faulted the way discussions about his possible entry were handled, saying key stakeholders in Bauchi were not properly involved. Members insisted that such political decisions should follow party structures and include wide consultation.

They said their position would be sent to the party’s national leadership, with a call for proper procedures to be followed in any future decisions affecting the state chapter.

Meanwhile, the governor is said to be taking more time before making any move, as he continues talks with his supporters within the PDP in Bauchi. Reports also indicate that the party in the state has set up a group led by Deputy Governor Auwal Jatau to review its situation and consider possible next steps, including future political alignment.
