ADC holds Anambra congress, elects new executives

On Saturday in Awka, African Democratic Congress held its state congress in Anambra State, where party members gathered at the Kyrie Events Centre to choose a new executive committee through a consensus process as part of efforts to strengthen the party ahead of future elections.

During the exercise, delegates from across the state endorsed a new leadership team, with Chris McCool Nwosu emerging as the state chairman. He was sworn in immediately alongside other officials who now make up the party’s executive structure at state, zonal, local government, and ward levels.

The congress was supervised by a committee sent from Abuja, led by Fidel Ayogu, with other members assisting in overseeing the process. Party leaders present at the event said the selection followed the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines.

After his emergence, the new chairman spoke about the responsibility before the team and called for unity among members. He said the new leadership would work to reconnect with people across the state, build a stronger party structure, and present the party as a credible option in Anambra politics.

He also pointed to the influence of Peter Obi as a key figure admired by many within the party, noting that the new leadership would build on shared goals and collective effort to move the party forward.

Other party stakeholders urged the new executives to carry members along in decision-making and ensure fairness across all levels of the party. They said unity within the party would be important as preparations continue for the 2027 elections.

With the new leadership in place, party members expressed hope that the structure built during the congress would help the party expand its presence and improve its chances in upcoming elections across the state.
