Osun 2027: Accord aspirants demand fair primaries, back zoning system

In Osun State, on Tuesday, ten House of Assembly aspirants under the Accord Party called for a free and fair primary election to decide the party’s candidate for the Iwo State Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The aspirants made their demand through a statement issued in Osogbo, where they also asked the party to maintain the existing zoning system used in selecting candidates.

The group explained that the zoning arrangement has guided the rotation of the constituency seat among different quarters over the years and should continue to ensure balance within the party. They stated that based on this arrangement, the Isale Oba Quarters, which has four wards, should produce the next candidate for the constituency.

They recalled that the current lawmaker representing the constituency, Rabiu Adesina, benefited from the same zoning system when he emerged as a candidate under another party during the 2023 elections. According to them, the arrangement has helped maintain order and fairness among the various quarters in the area.

The aspirants also listed their members from the different wards in Isale Oba Quarters and agreed to support whoever emerges through a transparent and credible process. They noted that unity among them would strengthen the party’s chances in both the upcoming governorship election in August and the 2027 general elections.

They further assured party leaders of their readiness to work together to achieve victory, adding that internal fairness would help build trust among members and attract more support.

The development comes after the current representative of the constituency recently left the Accord Party for the All Progressives Congress, a move linked to disagreements over his chances of securing the party’s ticket for another term.
