PDP South-West Disowns Ibadan Briefing, Labels Organisers Impostors

The South-West leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party on Monday, April 20, 2026, denied any involvement in a press conference said to have taken place in Ibadan, where claims were made about the party’s stance on key political figures and internal matters.

The party stated that the gathering was not organised by any recognised organ of the PDP and that those behind it were not members acting on its behalf.

According to the statement issued by Akinloye Oyeniyi, the event did not reflect the position of the party. He explained that the zonal chairman, Deji Doherty, was in Abuja at the time attending a National Executive Committee meeting, and no official within the zone authorised or attended any such briefing.

The party made it clear that the individuals involved in the Ibadan event have no link to its structure, noting that they do not hold any position or mandate within the PDP from the grassroots to the national level. It also pointed out gaps in the group’s structure, stating that they lack key leadership roles required for any recognised zonal body.

The PDP South-West further described the group as individuals who had previously attempted to cause internal crisis within the party but failed. It added that their actions were aimed at creating confusion and gaining attention, rather than representing genuine party interests.

The statement also clarified that the zone remains committed to its recognised national leadership and structure. It urged those behind the alleged press conference to follow proper procedures if they wish to be part of the party, instead of acting outside its system.

The party advised members of the public and the media to ignore the claims made at the Ibadan event, stating that all official information from the South-West zone would only come through its approved communication channels under the leadership of Deji Doherty.
