Yobe APC Adopts Consensus for 2027 Primaries, Endorses Tinubu for second term

The All Progressives Congress in Yobe State on Thursday adopted consensus for selecting candidates for the 2027 general elections and also endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term, as party leaders moved early to shape their strategy ahead of the polls.

The decisions were reached at a stakeholders’ meeting held in Damaturu, where party leaders and members reviewed preparations for the next election cycle and agreed on the method to be used in choosing candidates for different offices.

Reading the resolutions reached at the meeting, former Senate President Ahmad Lawan said the party settled for consensus rather than direct primaries, describing it as a method that has worked for the party in the state in previous elections.

Party leaders said the choice was aimed at promoting unity and reducing internal disputes that often arise during competitive primaries. They expressed confidence that candidates produced through consensus would enjoy broad support across the party.

Beyond the decision on primaries, the stakeholders also endorsed Tinubu as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election, signaling early support for his second-term ambition.

The Yobe APC said its backing for Tinubu was based on what members described as reforms and interventions by the federal government, which they believe have started producing results.

Party leaders also set ambitious electoral targets for the next election, expressing confidence that the APC would improve on its previous performance in the state. They projected stronger votes not only for Tinubu but also for governorship, National Assembly and State Assembly candidates under the party.

The endorsement places Yobe among states where support is already building for Tinubu ahead of the presidential contest, even as political alignments continue to take shape across the country.

The adoption of consensus is also expected to influence how aspirants in the state approach the primaries, with party leaders hoping the method will reduce division and strengthen internal cohesion.

Observers say the move reflects the APC’s effort in Yobe to avoid conflict before the elections while presenting a united front around both its candidate selection process and presidential support.

With the resolutions now adopted, the state chapter appears focused on consolidating party unity and mobilising support early as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
