Kano Assembly Confirms Murtala Garo as Deputy Governor

The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed Murtala Sule Garo as the new deputy governor following his nomination and screening by lawmakers.

The confirmation came during plenary presided over by Speaker Jibril Isma’il Falgore after an ad hoc committee presented its report on the nominee. The committee, led by Deputy Speaker Muhammad Bello, said the process followed constitutional provisions guiding the filling of a vacancy in the office of deputy governor.

Lawmakers reviewed Garo’s qualifications, work history and knowledge of governance during the screening process. According to the committee’s findings, he responded to questions on public service, state administration and his plans to support the government of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The committee also reported that his credentials were examined and found in order before recommending him for confirmation. After considering the report, members of the Assembly adopted the recommendation and approved his appointment.


His confirmation comes after political changes in the state following the resignation of Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, which created the need for a replacement.

With the Assembly’s approval, Garo now steps into the role as deputy governor and is expected to work with the governor in the administration of the state.


The development marks a fresh phase in Kano’s political leadership, with attention now turning to how the new deputy governor will support government programmes and ongoing policies.
