2027: Yayi Picks APC Governorship Nomination Forms

Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has entered the 2027 Ogun State governorship race after obtaining the All Progressives Congress nomination and expression of interest forms. The forms, valued at N50 million, were picked up on Tuesday in Abuja on his behalf, formally confirming his bid to contest for the state’s top office.

The forms were presented at the APC national headquarters by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Argungu, as the process for the 2027 elections continues to gather pace. Yayi’s move places him among early contenders seeking the ruling party’s ticket ahead of the governorship election.

His decision to join the race comes as political activities continue to build in Ogun State, with consultations and alignments expected to shape the contest in the months ahead. His entry is already drawing attention within the party, given his political profile and long-standing presence in Ogun politics.

Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the Senate, has been linked with governorship ambition for some time, and the collection of the nomination forms has now turned speculation into an open declaration.

The development also comes as the Independent National Electoral Commission rolls out activities for the 2027 general elections. The commission has fixed February 6, 2027, for governorship and state assembly elections, while party primaries are scheduled to run from April 23 to May 30, 2026.

Campaign activities for governorship candidates are expected to begin on September 9, 2026, according to the election timetable.

With his entry into the race, attention is likely to shift to other aspirants in the Ogun APC and how the contest for the party’s ticket may unfold. Political observers believe the race could attract strong competition as party leaders and stakeholders begin consultations ahead of the primaries.
