Okechukwu made his political ambition known through a video shared on his Instagram page on Tuesday, where he announced his plan to contest for the federal legislative seat. His declaration came during a visit to the All Progressives Congress secretariat in Imo State, where he met party leaders and informed them of his interest in the race.

The socialite, who has built a strong public presence in entertainment and social circles, said his decision to seek elective office is driven by a desire to represent and serve his people.

He also called for unity among party members and urged political stakeholders in the state to work together ahead of future elections.

His declaration places him among early aspirants already positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections, even as political activities continue to gather momentum across the country.

Okechukwu has in recent years become active in political mobilisation, particularly through the City Boy Movement, a support group linked to President Bola Tinubu’s political agenda. He currently serves as the Imo State director of the group and has been involved in grassroots political engagement.

His growing political activities had fueled speculation about possible elective ambition, and his latest announcement appears to confirm a move from political support roles into direct participation.

If elected, Okechukwu would represent the Orsu, Orlu and Oru East federal constituency in the House of Representatives, where lawmakers are responsible for making laws and representing constituents at the national level.

His entry into the race may attract attention given his celebrity status and large following, while also adding a new dimension to the contest for the seat.
Though the 2027 elections are still some time away, declarations such as this signal early political positioning by aspirants and parties.

Observers say his popularity in entertainment and social circles could influence his political journey, though party primaries and broader electoral dynamics will shape the path ahead.

With his announcement, Okechukwu has now openly joined the list of public figures seeking political office, moving from support politics to personal ambition as preparations gradually begin for the next general election cycle.
