INEC recognises Baba-Ahmed as PRP chairman

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Friday updated its online records to list Hakeem Baba-Ahmed as the National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party, along with other members of the party’s National Working Committee. The update followed concerns raised by party members over the absence of the new leadership on the commission’s portal after their convention.

The development came shortly after complaints from party officials and supporters, who questioned why the names of the newly elected executives were not reflected weeks after the convention held on March 28, 2026, in Abuja. The meeting, which produced Baba-Ahmed as chairman, was attended by INEC officials.

The delay had created uncertainty within the party, with its National Publicity Secretary, Muhammed Ishaq, first drawing attention to the issue. Baba-Ahmed also raised concerns over the situation, especially since the electoral body monitored the convention where the leaders emerged.

Despite the delay, party officials maintained that the absence of the names on the portal did not affect the legality of the leadership or the party’s activities. However, the situation led to reactions from members, including complaints shared on social media.

Within 24 hours of the issue gaining attention, INEC updated its portal to include Baba-Ahmed and other key officials. The list now includes Kanu Uchenna as National Secretary, Bayawo Abdullahi as National Treasurer, Chuka Patrick as National Financial Secretary, and Vincent Okudu as National Legal Adviser.

The update confirms the commission’s recognition of the party’s leadership and ends the brief uncertainty that followed the convention.
