Obi, Dickson visit Kwankwaso ahead of NDC convention

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and National Chairman of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, Henry Seriake Dickson, on Friday night visited former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso at his residence in Maitama, Abuja.

The meeting was made public through a statement released by Kwankwaso’s media aide, Hon. Saifullahi Hassan. According to the statement, the political leaders discussed current political events and developments in the country as preparations continue ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Although details of the discussion were not revealed, the visit has increased public attention on possible political alliances ahead of the next presidential contest.
Several top members of the Kwankwasiyya movement and the New Nigeria Peoples Party were present during the meeting.

Those who welcomed the visitors alongside Kwankwaso included former Kano State Deputy Governor Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, Senator Rufa’i Sani Hanga, NNPP chieftain Buba Galadima and House of Representatives member Yusuf Datti Kura.

The gathering comes at a time when political consultations and meetings among opposition figures are becoming more frequent across the country. There have also been growing talks about possible cooperation between Peter Obi and Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Political observers believe the latest meeting may be connected to ongoing discussions among opposition leaders seeking stronger partnerships before the next election cycle. However, none of the leaders involved publicly confirmed any agreement or coalition arrangement after the meeting.

The visit also comes shortly before the planned national convention of the Nigerian Democratic Congress in Abuja, where party leaders and delegates are expected to discuss the party’s direction and future political plans.

With political activities gradually increasing across different parties, more consultations and strategic meetings are expected in the coming months as politicians prepare for the 2027 elections.
