In Yobe State, Nigeria, on Tuesday, the Yobe chapter of the African Democratic Congress said it has no agreement with the ruling All Progressives Congress after reports emerged that some members loyal to Atiku Abubakar had agreed to work with the APC ahead of the 2027 elections, a claim made during a meeting in Damaturu over the weekend by Prof. Muhammad Jawa, who also linked the plan to political stability and support for President Bola Tinubu.

The party leadership in Yobe, led by state chairman Umar Alhaji, rejected the claim and said it does not represent the position of the party. It stated that there is no plan or agreement to align with the APC at any level and warned that the report could create division among members.

The ADC also questioned the role and political actions of Jawa, saying his past involvement in government as Special Assistant to Governor Mai Mala Buni while still linked to the party raised concerns among members. The party further accused him of weak performance during his time handling party membership activities, which it said led to poor registration results in the state.

It also pointed to internal elections where Jawa failed in his bid for a leadership position, saying members had already lost confidence in his leadership drive. The party added that some of his associations with political movements outside the party had caused further tension among stakeholders.
Despite the disagreement, the ADC in Yobe maintained that it remains united and focused on acting as a strong opposition in the state. It urged members of the public to ignore claims of any partnership with the APC, saying the report was not correct and was aimed at creating confusion within the party.
