Makinde Declares 2027 Presidential Bid on APM Platform

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Thursday officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement during a political rally held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Makinde announced his presidential ambition at a joint mega rally organised by members of the Peoples Democratic Party faction loyal to him and the Allied Peoples Movement. The event also marked the formal unveiling of a political alliance between both groups ahead of the next general election.

The governor said the current condition of the country had continued to worsen, with many Nigerians struggling daily to survive. He stated that concerns over the direction of the nation pushed him to join the presidential race ahead of the 2027 election.

Makinde also said opposition parties in the country could work together despite claims that unity among them was impossible. According to him, many Nigerians who are unhappy with the present state of affairs now see themselves as part of the opposition movement.

During the rally, Makinde announced that the alliance between the PDP faction and the APM would allow both sides to present candidates for different political offices in the 2027 elections. He said the arrangement would cover positions from the presidency down to state assembly seats.

Before the rally, Makinde led the Taminu Turaki faction of the PDP in signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Allied Peoples Movement as part of preparations for the elections.

The agreement was signed by Makinde and the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle, on behalf of both parties.
Under the arrangement, governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly candidates linked to the PDP faction are expected to contest the election on the platform of the APM instead of the PDP.

The development comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general election, with several opposition figures searching for stronger platforms and alliances to challenge the ruling party.
