Former Sokoto State Governor and serving lawmaker representing Sokoto South Senatorial District, Aminu Tambuwal, has withdrawn from the 2027 senatorial contest under the African Democratic Congress, ADC. The development became public on Friday as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continued to gather momentum in Sokoto State.

Following Tambuwal’s withdrawal from the race, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Faruk Yabo, was endorsed by the ADC as the consensus candidate for the Sokoto South senatorial seat. The decision was part of ongoing arrangements within the party aimed at preparing for the coming elections in the state.

Tambuwal, who played a major role in the Peoples Democratic Party during the 2023 presidential election, had earlier stepped down from the PDP presidential race in support of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. His latest decision to step aside from the senatorial race has already attracted attention within political circles in Sokoto and beyond.

At the same time, the ADC also moved forward with its governorship plans in the state. Former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, emerged as the party’s consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election. Dan’iya served under Tambuwal during his time as governor and remains one of his close political allies.
The latest political developments show that the ADC is trying to strengthen its structure in Sokoto State ahead of the next general election. Party leaders and stakeholders have continued consultations as different camps within the state align themselves for the coming political battle.
