APGA senatorial aspirant predicts tough Anambra primary race

Anambra Central senatorial aspirant of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Ferdinand Dozie Nwankwo, has told his supporters to prepare for a difficult contest ahead of the party’s primary election in Anambra State as Governor Chukwuma Soludo pushes for a transparent process before the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.

Nwankwo spoke shortly after successfully passing the party’s screening exercise conducted for aspirants seeking elective positions under the APGA platform. His comments came as Governor Soludo, who is the leader of the party in the state, maintained that the primaries must be free and credible, with the Option A4 voting system adopted for the exercise.

Addressing his supporters after the screening, Nwankwo praised the screening committee for carrying out what he described as a detailed process. He said the party has maintained strict standards in its internal activities over the years.

The senatorial hopeful also spoke about his relationship with people in the constituency, saying he has spent much of his life among them and understands their daily challenges. He referred to the activities of the Ferdinand Dozie Nwankwo Foundation, which he said has supported many people over the years through different forms of assistance.

According to him, he is prepared to do more for the people if given the opportunity to represent the district in the Senate. He, however, warned his supporters that the coming primary election would not be easy and called on them to remain ready for the political contest ahead.

Nwankwo is contesting for the APGA ticket alongside Ambassador Jerry Ugokwe. Both aspirants are seeking the party’s nomination to represent Anambra Central Senatorial Zone in the 2027 elections.

The seat is currently occupied by Senator Victor Umeh of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, who represents the district in the National Assembly.
