Amaechi Declares Self ADC’s Strongest Presidential Contender

Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that he stands as the strongest option for the African Democratic Congress presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking during an interview on ARISE News, Amaechi said his political background and years in public office give him an advantage over other aspirants expected to contest under the party’s platform.

The former Minister of Transportation made the comments as discussions around the ADC presidential race continue to grow, with names such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Northern Nigeria Development Company chief Mohammed Hayatu-Deen also linked with the contest.

Amaechi argued that his record in public service and leadership positions makes him a strong candidate. He referred to his time as Speaker, Governor and his role leading governors across the country, saying those experiences prepared him for higher office.

According to him, he previously led both the Speakers’ Conference and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, serving more than one term in some of those positions. He maintained that these roles gave him practical experience in governance and managing national political issues.

The former governor also used the interview to criticise the current administration of President Bola Tinubu. He accused the ruling All Progressives Congress of creating difficult economic conditions that could influence voter behaviour during elections.

Amaechi further claimed that opposition parties face challenges from political and government institutions, arguing that democratic principles should allow all parties to operate freely without interference.

Looking ahead to his plans if elected president, Amaechi said restoring respect for the rule of law and strengthening order across the country would be among his first priorities.

His remarks come as political parties continue early preparations and internal positioning ahead of the 2027 general election cycle.
