Sowore Steps Down as AAC Chair After Securing Presidential Ticket

The African Action Congress has announced a leadership change following the emergence of Omoyele Sowore as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. The development was confirmed on Tuesday after the conclusion of the party’s primary election in Abuja.

According to the party, Sowore resigned from his position as National Chairman shortly after receiving the presidential ticket. In response to the change, the AAC appointed Samuel Ajeigbe to take over leadership of the party ahead of preparations for the next election cycle.

The transition comes as the party begins to reorganise its structure for the 2027 elections and separate its campaign activities from party administration.

Sowore secured the presidential nomination through unanimous support from delegates and party leaders who participated in the primary held in the Federal Capital Territory. His emergence was followed by celebrations from party members and supporters who gathered for the exercise.

Following his nomination, Sowore restated the party’s goal of presenting an alternative political direction for the country. He also thanked party members for remaining active despite political and economic challenges in recent years.

During his address, the former presidential candidate criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress and questioned claims surrounding participation figures recorded during the party’s presidential primary process.

The AAC leadership said the change in chairmanship marks the beginning of a new phase for the party as it prepares for campaign activities and political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general election.

With Sowore now focused on the presidential race and Ajeigbe taking over party leadership, the AAC is expected to begin building structures and strategies for the coming national elections.
