FCTA Warns Hotels, Event Centres Against Hosting Illegal Groups

The Federal Capital Territory Administration on Friday warned owners of hotels, event centres and other public facilities in Abuja against allowing illegal organisations to use their properties for meetings and activities.

The warning was issued by the FCTA through a statement released by the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka. The administration said the move is part of efforts to strengthen security and maintain peace in the nation’s capital.

According to the statement, authorities will begin close monitoring of event centres, hotels and other public buildings across the Federal Capital Territory to ensure that unlawful groups do not use them for gatherings capable of causing unrest or threatening public safety.

The FCTA said land and property allocations in the territory are meant for lawful activities only and warned that any property linked to activities of illegal organisations could face serious sanctions.

The administration stated that owners and operators of these facilities must properly verify groups seeking to rent their spaces and understand the purpose of every event before approving usage.

It also advised operators to be more careful during the political season by dealing only with political party leaders recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission when renting out their facilities for political activities.

The statement added that event centre and hotel owners are expected to keep proper records of all transactions connected to the use of their facilities.

The FCTA warned that any property found to have hosted illegal organisations or activities that threaten public peace could have its title documents revoked by the administration.
