Accord Confirms Olawepo-Hashim as Presidential Candidate

On Sunday, the Accord Party confirmed businessman and politician Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election after concluding its affirmation primaries in several states across the country.

The party announced the outcome after members participated in an endorsement exercise designed to formally approve Olawepo-Hashim’s candidature. Although he was the only aspirant seeking the ticket, party leaders proceeded with the process to allow members express their support through a democratic exercise.

Results released by party officials showed that Olawepo-Hashim secured 423,902 affirmative votes from participating states. The exercise was conducted in different parts of the country and attracted party members and supporters who turned out to take part in the process.

The results were announced by Yahaya Mohammed, who served as the returning officer for Kebbi State. He stated that the exercise followed the party’s guidelines and reflected the level of support the candidate enjoys among members.

According to the figures released, Jigawa State recorded the highest number of votes with 198,200, while Kano State contributed 124,101 votes. Nasarawa State produced 47,309 votes, Kebbi State recorded 46,852 votes, Lagos State returned 4,548 votes, while Kwara State accounted for 3,348 votes.

Party officials described the outcome as a sign of growing confidence in Olawepo-Hashim and said preparations would now shift toward mobilising support ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Supporters of the candidate welcomed the development and expressed optimism that the Accord Party could present a different option to Nigerians during the next general election. They also described Olawepo-Hashim as a politician capable of promoting national unity and bringing people from different backgrounds together.

Olawepo-Hashim has remained active in Nigerian politics for many years. A former student activist and businessman, he contested the presidency in 2019 under the platform of the People’s Trust Party. Over the years, he has consistently spoken on issues relating to national unity, economic development, insecurity and governance reforms.

Apart from politics, he has maintained interests in private-sector investments and public policy discussions. His political activities have often focused on finding solutions to challenges affecting different parts of the country.

Founded in 2006, the Accord Party has maintained a presence in Nigeria’s political space, particularly in parts of the South-West. While it is not among the country’s biggest political parties, it has participated in several elections and recorded victories at different levels over the years.

With Olawepo-Hashim now confirmed as its presidential candidate, the party joins other political groups that have begun putting structures in place ahead of the 2027 elections, as campaigns, consultations and political realignments continue across the country.
