2027: Pick Amaechi as Running Mate, ADC Chieftain Tells Atiku

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has called on the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to consider former Rivers State Governor and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as his running mate for the 2027 general election.

Eze made the appeal on Wednesday, arguing that Amaechi remains one of the most experienced politicians in the country and could play an important role in the party’s campaign ahead of the next presidential poll.

According to him, Amaechi’s political background and involvement in previous national elections make him a valuable figure whose influence should not be overlooked. He said the former Rivers governor has built a strong political network over the years and remains a respected voice within political circles.

Eze stated that while several names may be under consideration for the vice-presidential position, Amaechi stands out because of his leadership experience and ability to mobilise support across different parts of the country.

He also warned that leaving Amaechi out of the ticket could create dissatisfaction among some members and supporters of the party who see him as a major stakeholder in the ADC project.

The party chieftain further praised Atiku for reaching out to other aspirants after securing the ADC presidential ticket. He described the move as a step toward strengthening unity within the party and bringing all factions together ahead of the 2027 elections.

Eze noted that Atiku’s meetings with Amaechi and businessman Hayatu-Deen, who also contested the presidential primary, showed a willingness to work with former rivals and build a united front.

He added that Atiku’s long involvement in Nigeria’s democratic process and his political experience have continued to earn him support from many Nigerians. According to Eze, the party now needs to focus on building a strong team capable of presenting a credible alternative in the next general election.

His comments come as political parties continue consultations and preparations ahead of the 2027 elections, with attention already turning to possible alliances and the selection of running mates.
