2027: Fayose Renews Support for Tinubu, Oyebanji Ahead of Ekiti Poll

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has again declared his support for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Biodun Oyebanji ahead of the 2027 presidential election and the June 20 governorship election in Ekiti State.

Speaking during a live programme on Our People’s 104.1 FM in Ado-Ekiti, which was also carried by other radio and television stations in the state, Fayose made it clear that his political stance has not changed. He said he would not support the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the governorship race, citing concerns about the faction responsible for producing the candidate.

Despite his position, the former governor stated that he would not attack or criticise the PDP candidate. He explained that his decision was based on his personal convictions and political assessment of the situation in the state.

Fayose also reflected on his own political experience during the 2002 governorship election in Ekiti State. He recalled the efforts he made while challenging the sitting governor at the time, noting that he approached the election with determination and a clear strategy aimed at securing victory.

According to him, opposition politics requires strong commitment, proper planning and constant engagement with voters. He questioned whether some of the current opposition figures in Ekiti have demonstrated the level of preparation needed to unseat an incumbent governor.

The former governor said successful election campaigns are built on hard work, effective organisation and direct connection with the electorate. He maintained that candidates seeking public office must be visible among the people and work consistently to earn their trust and support.

Fayose further argued that Governor Oyebanji currently enjoys broad acceptance across the state. He described public support as one of the most important factors in any election and said the governor’s relationship with residents places him in a strong position ahead of the governorship poll.

His latest remarks add to a series of public statements in which he has openly supported both Tinubu and Oyebanji despite remaining a member of the PDP. The comments are expected to continue generating discussion within political circles in Ekiti as preparations for future elections gather momentum.
