Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Friday introduced a new executive order restricting motorcycle operations from 10:30 pm to 5:30 am across the state as part of efforts to address rising insecurity and improve public safety.

The order, announced in Ibadan, affects commercial and private motorcycle riders within the state’s night hours and is aimed at reducing criminal activities linked to night movement.

The governor said the decision became necessary due to ongoing security concerns, including the recent abduction of school children and teachers in the state. He explained that government efforts were still ongoing to secure the release of the victims, noting that their return remains a priority.

Makinde said the state was fully engaged in operations to ensure the safe rescue of those abducted and assured residents that work was being carried out continuously despite limited public updates due to the sensitive nature of the situation.
He also appealed to residents for patience, saying silence from the government should not be taken as inactivity, as security agencies and relevant authorities were working behind the scenes.
According to him, every day the abducted victims remain in captivity brings pain to their families and to the people of Oyo State, and government will continue to push for their safe return.
