Presidency faults Comparison Between Adelabu Family Kidnap and Oyo School Abduction

The Presidency has stated that comparing the abduction of Adelabu’s sister and her children with the kidnapping of pupils and teachers in Oyo State does not present the full picture of the two incidents.

According to Temitope Ajayi, the criminal groups behind both cases operated differently and pursued different objectives. He noted that while one involved kidnappers seeking financial gain and hiding victims within a residential area, the other involved armed groups operating from remote locations.

Ajayi said the methods used by security agencies in responding to the incidents cannot be identical because the situations are not the same. He maintained that the government and security agencies are working to secure the release of all victims and should not be accused of favouring one case over another.

The presidential aide also expressed confidence that the abducted schoolchildren and teachers would eventually regain their freedom. He urged Nigerians to celebrate the successful rescue of Adelabu’s relatives while continuing to hope and pray for the safe return of those still being held by their captors.

His comments came after debates on social media over the speed of the rescue operation that led to the release of Adelabu’s sister and her twin sons compared to the continued captivity of the Oyo schoolchildren and teachers.

The former minister’s relatives regained their freedom on Saturday after a rescue operation carried out by the Nigeria Police. Authorities said the victims were found in a kidnappers’ hideout and safely reunited with their family.

Meanwhile, efforts by security agencies to rescue the abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State are still ongoing, with government officials assuring the public that operations to secure their release remain active.
