Kwankwaso Not Leaving NDC, Spokesman Clears Air on Exit Rumours

The Kwankwasiyya Movement has dismissed reports claiming that its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is preparing to leave the Nigeria Democratic Congress following disputes over candidate nominations in Kano State.

The clarification came amid widespread speculation on social media suggesting that Kwankwaso was unhappy with decisions taken by the party leadership and was considering pulling his political structure out of the NDC.

According to the movement, there is no plan by its leader to abandon the party. Its spokesperson explained that the group followed all procedures laid down by the Independent National Electoral Commission during the recent primary elections and that candidates emerged through the required processes before the exercise was concluded.

The spokesperson said the primaries were conducted across the country within the approved timetable and that there were no formal objections from aspirants or party members during the process. He added that the results had already been submitted to the party for further action in line with electoral guidelines.

The movement also maintained that there had never been any discussion about Kwankwaso leaving the NDC. It described the reports as false and urged members of the public to ignore claims suggesting a split between the former Kano State governor and the party.

The rumours surfaced after reports emerged that the NDC leadership altered some candidate nominations submitted by the Kwankwasiyya bloc in Kano. The changes were said to be linked to efforts by the party to implement a previously agreed formula for sharing positions between the original party structure and the Kwankwasiyya group.

The arrangement reportedly allocated 60 per cent of positions to the Kwankwasiyya bloc and 40 per cent to the existing party structure. The alleged replacement of some candidates sparked reactions and fuelled claims of internal disagreements within the party.

Social media reports later suggested that Kwankwaso was considering leaving the NDC because the party leadership did not fully accept the list of consensus candidates submitted from Kano State. Those reports quickly gained attention and triggered fresh debate about the future of the opposition party in the state.

However, the Kwankwasiyya Movement has now moved to calm the situation, insisting that its leader remains committed to the NDC and that the group remains united despite recent controversies surrounding candidate selections and power-sharing arrangements.
