The reaction followed allegations earlier made by Kenneth Okonkwo, who said that Ohaegbu had informed him about alleged payment demands within the party and linked the process to senior party figures in the South-East.

Ohaegbu explained that his communication with Okonkwo was limited to general updates shared with a large group of contacts, including party members and stakeholders. He said the message being referred to was a broadcast meant to clarify rumours about automatic tickets and internal party arrangements.

He stated that at no point did he tell Okonkwo that he met Peter Obi during the selection process or that Obi demanded any payment. He added that all financial discussions he had were with the party’s national secretary, not with Obi or his close associates.
Ohaegbu also maintained that the N10 million payment he made went directly into the official account of the NDC and was part of nomination procedures, not a bribe as alleged. He insisted that he never described the process as fraudulent or linked Obi directly to any payment instruction.
He further denied claims that candidate lists were prepared in a hotel in Abuja during the primaries, saying such information did not come from him.
The aspirant said he is prepared to defend his position and provide evidence of his communications if necessary.
