Sanwo-Olu described the emergence of Hamzat and Sonayon-James as an important step in the party’s preparations for the next election. He said the duo possesses the leadership qualities needed to continue the work of the current administration and maintain the pace of development in Lagos.
The governor noted that Hamzat has played a major role in the administration over the years as deputy governor. He said the APC candidate has remained committed to public service and has contributed to policies and programmes aimed at improving governance and the welfare of residents.
Sanwo-Olu also spoke about Sonayon-James, describing her as a leader with experience in community development and sustainability. He said her work with young people and grassroots groups has earned her recognition across different parts of the state.
According to the governor, the combination of Hamzat and Sonayon-James reflects the party’s desire to build on existing achievements while creating new opportunities for residents. He expressed confidence that both candidates have the experience and energy required to move the state forward.
The governor further appealed to APC members, stakeholders and Lagos residents to unite behind the ticket as preparations for the election continue. He said collective support would be necessary to ensure the party remains in control of the state and continues its development agenda.
Hamzat emerged as the APC governorship candidate after winning the party’s primary election held at the APC secretariat in Ogba on May 21. He secured an overwhelming victory in the exercise, receiving nearly all the votes cast by accredited party members, while his only challenger, Lanre Jim-Kamal, recorded a single vote.
With the unveiling now completed, attention is expected to shift to campaign activities and further political engagements as parties prepare for the next governorship contest in Lagos State.
