Ekiti Poll: Oluyede Shows Oyebanji ‘Red Card,’ Predicts Defeat

Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Dr Wole Oluyede, has expressed confidence that he will defeat Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress in the June 20 governorship election.

Oluyede made the declaration during the PDP’s grand finale campaign rally held in Ado-Ekiti, where party supporters gathered ahead of Saturday’s poll. The PDP candidate used a symbolic red card gesture to suggest that the incumbent governor’s time in office was coming to an end.

According to him, the coming election represents an opportunity for Ekiti residents to choose a different direction for the state. He said many citizens were eager for change and ready to support the PDP at the ballot box.

Oluyede maintained that the election goes beyond political parties and should be viewed as an important moment for residents who desire improved living conditions and a different style of governance.

He urged eligible voters to participate fully in the electoral process, advising them to arrive early at their polling units and remain vigilant throughout the voting and counting stages. He also encouraged them to ensure that the process is conducted peacefully and transparently.

The PDP candidate expressed confidence that security agencies would provide the necessary protection before, during and after the election. He called on residents not to be intimidated and to exercise their constitutional right freely.

Oluyede also appealed to voters to avoid selling their votes, arguing that the future of the state depends on the decisions made during the election. He said short-term financial rewards should not influence choices that could affect the long-term development of Ekiti State.

During the rally, the governorship hopeful questioned how resources received by the state government over the past three and a half years had been utilised. He argued that residents deserved better infrastructure, improved services and stronger economic opportunities considering the funds available to the state.

He urged the electorate to carefully assess the performance of the current administration and vote based on what they believe is best for the future of the state.

Oluyede also advised supporters to ignore political rumours and campaign attacks that may emerge in the final days before the election. He said voters should remain focused on the issues affecting their lives and make informed decisions at the polls.

With only days remaining before Ekiti residents head to the ballot, the PDP candidate said he remains confident that the people will choose his party and hand it the mandate to govern the state for the next four years.
