Tinubu Not Afraid of Peter Obi, Presidency Declares

The Presidency has dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu or his administration is worried about the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general elections. The position was made public on Sunday by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, during an interview on Mic On Podcast.

Dare said the government has no reason to fear Obi because it believes its record in office speaks for itself. According to him, the administration is focused on its achievements and remains confident that its performance has placed it in a strong position ahead of the next election cycle.

The presidential aide said Obi, like every Nigerian, has the constitutional right to express his views, including asking the President to step down. He, however, maintained that the government also has the right to respond, insisting there is no reason for Tinubu to resign.

He explained that Nigeria operates a presidential system with elections held every four years, giving citizens the opportunity to decide who leads the country through the ballot rather than through calls for resignation.

Dare also stated that while Obi may have been seen as a political force in the past, the situation has changed because the Tinubu administration believes it has made progress in addressing the country’s challenges. He added that the government is confident in its ability to defend its record before Nigerians.

The presidential spokesman further expressed confidence that Obi would not repeat his previous electoral success against Tinubu in Lagos State, insisting that the political landscape has changed ahead of the 2027 elections.

His remarks come as political discussions continue to gather pace, with major parties and opposition figures already positioning themselves ahead of the next general election.
