APC commends police after foiling alleged assassination bid on Osun campaign DG

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has praised the state Police Command for stopping an alleged assassination attempt on the Director-General of its Governorship Campaign Council, Wole Oke, ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The party made its position known on Friday in a statement issued in Osogbo by its Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Olabisi. The reaction came a day after the police paraded three suspects accused of planning to attack Oke in Ipetu Ijesa.

The suspects identified by the police include disc jockey Olalekan Oriyomi, Ayotunde Ikupolati, 44, and Femi Fakinleye, 31. Police also said they recovered an English Beretta pistol loaded with four rounds of live ammunition from one of the suspects during the operation.

The APC said the action of the police prevented what could have resulted in another tragic incident in the state. It added that it believed the command would carry out a full investigation and ensure that everyone connected to the alleged plot was identified and prosecuted according to the law.

The party also urged security agencies to continue efforts to remove criminal elements from the state and investigate individuals allegedly mentioned by the arrested suspects during interrogation. It maintained that all those linked to the alleged crime should face justice.

The opposition party further expressed concern that Governor Ademola Adeleke and the chairman of the ruling Accord Party in the state, Victor Akande, had not publicly reacted to the alleged assassination attempt several days after it occurred.

It also called on its members and supporters to remain peaceful and continue campaigning for its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Oyebamiji, as preparations continue for the August 15, 2026 governorship election in Osun State.
