Atiku recognised my worth, Peter Obi betrayed me – Kenneth Okonkwo

African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo has said former Vice President Atiku Abubakar recognised his worth, while accusing Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi of betraying him. Okonkwo made the remarks on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, barely a day after Atiku named him as his spokesperson.

The former actor and politician said his relationship with Obi ended in 2024 after he concluded that the former Anambra State governor did not possess the level of decisiveness needed to lead Nigeria.

Okonkwo explained that he openly announced his decision to stop speaking on Obi’s behalf because he wanted Nigerians to know that he no longer represented or defended the former governor. He said he returned to his role as a public affairs analyst after ending that relationship.

According to him, he had carefully observed Obi’s leadership style and reached the conclusion that he was not suitable to become Nigeria’s president. He said he made his position public at the time and moved on without hiding his views.

Okonkwo also rejected suggestions that he abandoned Obi, insisting that it was the former governor who failed him. He maintained that he acted honestly by informing the public when he decided to part ways with Obi instead of pretending to remain in his camp.

His comments came shortly after Atiku appointed him as his spokesman, a move that further confirmed his alignment with the former vice president ahead of the 2027 political activities.
