Umahi: Tinubu using road projects to tackle insecurity

Minister of Works, David Umahi, has said President Bola Tinubu’s administration is relying on major road construction and rehabilitation projects to support the fight against insecurity across the country.

Umahi made the remarks during the commencement of road projects at Muna City Gate along the Maiduguri-Dikwa-Gamboru highway in Borno State over the weekend.

According to the minister, the ongoing infrastructure projects are designed to improve access to communities affected by insecurity while providing better routes for security personnel carrying out operations in the North-East.

He explained that the roads would reconnect communities that had been cut off by years of conflict, encourage economic activities and improve movement within the region.

Umahi said the projects also form part of the government’s broader security strategy by improving access to border areas and strengthening the transportation network needed for military logistics.

He noted that the roads would create better connections between Nigeria and neighbouring countries, including Chad and Cameroon, while also making it easier for security forces to carry out operations against insurgent groups still active in parts of the region.

The minister added that the Federal Government believes improved road infrastructure will support efforts to restore normal economic and social activities in affected communities while assisting security agencies in maintaining peace and stability.

He said the projects reflect the administration’s commitment to combining infrastructure development with security efforts aimed at addressing challenges facing the North-East and other parts of the country.
