Tinubu Says Abuja Development Reflects Renewed Hope Agenda

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday said the ongoing development of the Federal Capital Territory reflects his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, as he pledged to continue investing in infrastructure across Nigeria.

He spoke in Abuja during the inauguration of Collector Road C01 and a bridge connecting the Body of Benchers, Nile University and Baze University in the Institution and Research District.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the President said the newly completed road project shows the government’s determination to fulfil promises made to Nigerians. He said the administration remains focused on delivering projects that improve the lives of citizens rather than leaving them with uncompleted plans.

Tinubu explained that work has already begun on extending the road corridor to RR III and other parts of Abuja. According to him, the expansion will connect the Institution and Research District with the wider road network, reduce travel time, ease traffic congestion and improve movement between schools, residential areas and business centres.

He noted that the district was originally planned to serve as the educational and research hub of the nation’s capital but had struggled for years with poor road infrastructure. The President recalled that concerns over traffic and access to the Body of Benchers, Nile University and Baze University were raised during the Nigerian Law School Call to Bar ceremony last year.

Tinubu said his administration responded by approving the project through emergency procurement to provide faster access to the affected institutions. He added that the completed road and bridge have improved movement, increased safety and created a better environment for learning and professional activities.

The President also said the construction created employment opportunities while contributing to economic growth. He noted that better roads attract investment, encourage business activities and support development in surrounding communities.

Tinubu praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for overseeing the delivery of several infrastructure projects across Abuja. He said the pace of work in the FCT shows the administration’s commitment to carrying out development projects without unnecessary delays.

He urged residents, educational institutions and other users of the road to protect the infrastructure so it can continue serving the community for many years. He added that the government would continue to build roads and other public facilities in cities, satellite towns and rural communities across the country.

According to the President, the ongoing changes in Abuja represent the wider transformation his administration hopes to achieve throughout Nigeria.

Speaking earlier, Wike thanked Tinubu for providing the support that made several infrastructure projects possible in the FCT. He said the decision to remove the FCT Administration from the Treasury Single Account improved access to funds, allowing projects to move forward more quickly.

The minister added that the newly commissioned road forms part of the administration’s plan to provide infrastructure in every district of the Federal Capital Territory. He said both the city centre and satellite communities would continue to benefit from ongoing development projects.
