Makinde Visits Rescued Oyo Pupils, Teachers in Hospital

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Saturday visited the pupils and teachers rescued from captivity at the Military Hospital in Ibadan, where they are receiving medical treatment and other care after regaining their freedom.

The governor’s visit came a day after the Federal Government confirmed that the victims had been rescued by security agencies following weeks in the hands of their abductors.

The schoolchildren and teachers were kidnapped on May 15, 2026, when gunmen attacked schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. They remained in captivity for more than 50 days before security operatives secured their release.

The Federal Government announced the successful operation on Friday through the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. According to the Presidency, security agencies rescued all the victims alive during the coordinated operation.

During his visit to the military hospital, Makinde met with the rescued pupils and teachers as they continued receiving medical attention and support from health workers. The visit formed part of the state’s efforts to monitor their condition and support their recovery after the traumatic experience.

The rescue has brought relief to families, residents and many Nigerians who had followed the case since the abduction. The incident had attracted widespread attention and led to repeated calls for stronger efforts to secure the safe return of the victims.

A video released after the governor’s visit showed him interacting with the rescued pupils and teachers at the hospital as they continued their recovery under the care of medical personnel.
