Peter Obi Faces Fresh Petition Over Alleged Aviation Security Breach

Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi is facing a fresh petition over allegations that he was involved in repeated breaches of aviation security involving a female passenger. The petition, dated July 12, 2026, was sent to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, with copies forwarded to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The petitioner called for an investigation into the allegations, claiming they involve aviation security, passenger identification and compliance with industry regulations.

The petition was written by a person who identified himself as a concerned employee in Nigeria’s aviation industry. It alleged that a woman said to be one of Obi’s media aides had earlier been barred from flying with Air Peace because of repeated misconduct and disagreements at airports.

According to the petition, the woman allegedly continued using the airline by travelling under different names after the restriction was placed on her. It also claimed that Obi accompanied her on several of those trips and allegedly assisted in making arrangements that allowed her to continue flying despite the airline’s decision.

The petitioner further alleged that the use of different identities created concerns about passenger verification and aviation security procedures. The document claimed that such actions made it difficult for the airline to enforce its safety rules and passenger identification process.

It also alleged that airport personnel were prevented from carrying out identity checks whenever Obi travelled with the passenger. According to the petition, staff members who attempted to verify the passenger’s identity were unable to complete the process. The petitioner claimed that flight ticket records and Passenger Name Record details were attached to support the allegations.

As of the time of filing the petition, there has been no public response from Peter Obi, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission or the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development regarding the claims contained in the document. The allegations also remain unproven, and no official findings have been released by the authorities.
