Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya has been elected as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) after winning the association’s national election held on Saturday.

The election results showed that Badejo-Okusanya received 12,317 votes, representing 47.18 percent of all valid votes cast. Her victory placed her ahead of the other contestants in the race. Lateef Akangbe, SAN, finished second with 7,934 votes, while Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, secured 5,855 votes.

The election also produced other members of the NBA’s new national executive committee. Oghenero Okoro emerged as the First Vice President with 11,024 votes.

Afam Okeke was elected General Secretary after polling 8,478 votes, while Aghogho Gladys won the position of Assistant General Secretary with 14,312 votes. Chinelo Audrey Ofoegbunam was elected Welfare Secretary after receiving 14,911 votes. Several other candidates also won positions to complete the new leadership team.
Following the announcement of the results, Badejo-Okusanya thanked members of the Nigerian Bar Association for giving her the opportunity to lead the association. She said the outcome reflected the trust and confidence members had placed in her to serve as president.
She also described the victory as one that belonged to the entire legal community that supported the vision of building a stronger, more inclusive and more responsive Nigerian Bar Association. She promised to work with members to improve the association and ensure that it serves the interests of lawyers across the country during her tenure.
