Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Wednesday declared his support for the Rainbow Coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, throwing his weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid and endorsing Kingsley Chinda as his preferred governorship candidate in Rivers State. He made the announcement during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Rivien Medical Industry project in Rumuosi, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
Speaking at the event, the governor said he had fully returned to his political family following the reconciliation that ended the long-running political dispute in the state. He urged his supporters to identify with the Rainbow Coalition, the political alliance associated with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Fubara said his support now belongs to the coalition and appealed to those loyal to him to follow the same political direction. He also confirmed his backing for President Tinubu’s re-election campaign, describing the President as the candidate he would support in the next election.
The governor further announced his endorsement of Kingsley Chinda for the Rivers governorship race, asking everyone who believes in his leadership to also support candidates contesting under the Rainbow Coalition.
He advised his supporters not to delay joining the coalition in anticipation of political appointments or personal benefits, explaining that he had already reconciled with Wike’s camp and returned to the political family. According to him, the period of political conflict has ended and the focus should now be on peace and progress.
Fubara also warned against using his name to promote political activities outside the coalition. He said he would not be involved in any movement capable of creating fresh divisions in Rivers State, adding that his priority is maintaining unity and moving the state forward.
The governor’s latest position comes months after he withdrew from the All Progressives Congress governorship primaries in May 2026 after consultations and reflection. His withdrawal followed his reconciliation with Wike, bringing an end to the political crisis that had divided Rivers State for several months.
The Rainbow Coalition is a political alliance bringing together members of the All Progressives Congress, factions of the Peoples Democratic Party and other groups working in support of President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.
