2027: ADC faction backs Wike’s Rainbow Coalition in Rivers

A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has declared its support for the Rainbow Coalition led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group, which is loyal to the party’s National Chairman, Ibe Kachikwu, announced its decision during a meeting held in Isiokpo, the headquarters of Ikwerre Local Government Area.

The development became public through a viral video in which the ADC Secretary in Ikwerre Local Government Area, Samuel Chuku, explained that the decision followed instructions from the faction’s national leadership. According to him, members in the state had been directed to work with Wike’s political coalition as preparations for the 2027 elections gather pace.

During the meeting, leaders of the faction said they remained the recognised leadership of the ADC in Ikwerre Local Government Area. They maintained that their alliance with the Rainbow Coalition would continue until the Supreme Court gives a final ruling on the party’s national leadership dispute.

The group also rejected the activities of another set of individuals claiming to represent the ADC in the council. They accused those linked to former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi of presenting themselves as party executives without any legitimate authority.

The faction insisted that only those recognised by the leadership under Ibe Kachikwu have the mandate to speak and act on behalf of the party in the area. It said members would continue to follow the directives of the national leadership while waiting for the court to settle the leadership crisis.

The latest move adds another twist to the political realignments taking place in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections. With the leadership dispute still unresolved, different groups within the ADC continue to take separate political positions as they prepare for the next round of elections.
