Osun 2026: SDP Denies Endorsing APC Candidate Oyebamiji

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has denied reports that its Osun State chapter has dissolved its structure to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election. The party made the clarification on Wednesday in Lagos, saying the report was false and did not reflect its position.

The reaction followed reports that a factional chairman of the SDP in Osun, Remi Omidire, had written to the APC leadership in the state announcing support for Oyebamiji. The development created speculation that the party had entered into an alliance with the ruling party before the election.

Responding to the claims, the Chairman of SDP State Chairmen in Nigeria, Femi Olaniyi, popularly known as Ferrari, said the authentic leadership of the party in Osun remained under the control of Funsho Fabiyi. He stated that the letter linked to Omidire did not come from the recognised leadership of the party.

Olaniyi described the report as false information designed to mislead members of the public and create confusion within the party. He maintained that the SDP had not dissolved its structure, endorsed the APC candidate or entered into any political agreement with the ruling party in Osun.

He said the party remained fully prepared to participate in the governorship election and would continue its campaigns across the state. According to him, the SDP remains committed to offering voters an alternative through the democratic process.

Olaniyi also warned those responsible for spreading what he described as false information to stop, adding that legal action could be taken against anyone found responsible for circulating misleading claims about the party.

He urged party members, supporters and the general public to disregard the reports, insisting that the SDP remained united and focused on its preparations for the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.
