The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has directed the demolition of an illegal settlement near Karmajiji in the Kukwaba District of Abuja after security reports linked the area to criminal activities. The order was given on Friday during a visit to the settlement shortly after a meeting of the FCT Security Committee.

Wike, accompanied by security operatives, said the action was taken as part of ongoing efforts to improve security across the Federal Capital Territory. According to him, intelligence gathered by security agencies showed that suspected criminals often returned to the settlement after carrying out attacks in different parts of Abuja.

The minister said the location had become a security threat because the identities of many people living there could not easily be verified. He noted that allowing such settlements to remain within the city could create more opportunities for criminal groups to operate without being traced.

He directed the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, to work with the Director of the Department of Development Control to remove the illegal structures without delay. The operation, he said, is aimed at stopping the use of the area as a base for criminal activities.
Wike also warned that anyone using illegal settlements to support or hide criminal operations would face legal action. He stated that the FCT Administration would continue to identify and remove places being used by criminals in order to improve public safety.
The minister added that the administration remains committed to strengthening security across Abuja and will continue working with security agencies to protect residents and their property while preventing criminal groups from establishing hideouts within the territory.
