Tinubu Appoints Ex-Plateau Governor Son as Special Assistant

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Yakubu Jang, son of former Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang, as Senior Special Assistant in the Office of the President. The appointment was announced on Saturday in Jos, Plateau State, during the 80th birthday celebration and book launch of the former governor.

Vice President Kashim Shettima made the announcement while delivering President Tinubu’s goodwill message at the event. He said the appointment formed part of the President’s efforts to bring experienced and capable individuals into his administration while giving room for broader representation in government.

The event took place at the Tamarald Event Centre and attracted several prominent personalities from across the country. Among those present were former President Goodluck Jonathan, governors, federal and state government officials, traditional rulers, political leaders and other distinguished guests.

The announcement was warmly received by attendees, who applauded the decision during the ceremony. The gathering was organised to celebrate Jonah Jang’s 80th birthday and recognise his years of public service.

Jang has held several positions in Nigeria, including serving in the Nigerian Air Force, acting as a Military Administrator, completing two terms as Governor of Plateau State and representing the state in the Senate. His career in public service was one of the major reasons many political leaders attended the celebration.

As part of the programme, the former governor also unveiled his autobiography titled Airman to Politics: My Life. The book captures his personal experiences and journey from military service into politics, as well as his years in public office.

Yakubu Jang’s appointment came on the same day political leaders gathered in Plateau State to honour his father’s contributions to the country. His new role places him among the senior aides expected to support President Tinubu in the day-to-day activities of the Presidency.
