2027: Kwankwaso receives APC defectors into NDC in Kano

Nigeria Democratic Congress vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Sunday received a group of defectors from the All Progressives Congress into the NDC and the Kwankwasiyya Movement at his residence on Miller Road in Kano State. The event was announced by the Kwankwasiyya Movement through a post on its official social media platforms.

The group of defectors was led by Danlami Zakari Unguwar Gertai, also known as Garkuwan Gari, from Gari Local Government Area of Kano State. He arrived with several supporters who formally joined the NDC and declared their commitment to the party and the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

According to the movement, the new members expressed their readiness to work with the party and support its plans ahead of the 2027 general elections. Their defection adds to the political activities taking place as parties continue to strengthen their structures before the next nationwide polls.

The latest development came a day after the Independent National Electoral Commission released the credentials and personal details of Kwankwaso and the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as part of preparations for the 2027 presidential election.

Kwankwaso and Obi were presidential candidates in the 2023 general election under different political parties before later joining the All Progressives Congress. They eventually left the ruling party and moved to the Nigeria Democratic Congress, citing unresolved internal disagreements and ongoing legal disputes within the APC.

Political observers expect more realignments in the coming months as parties continue consultations, attract new members and prepare their campaigns before the official start of election activities for the 2027 polls.
