Wike: Bode George Still Angry Over Failed PDP Chairmanship Bid

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he has no regret over his opposition to Bode George’s bid to become the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Wike made the statement on Saturday through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, while reacting to recent comments attributed to the former PDP Deputy National Chairman.

The FCT Minister claimed that George remained unhappy because he was prevented from taking over the leadership of the PDP at the national level.
According to Wike, George had expected to become the party’s national chairman but his ambition was stopped because the position was expected to go to the South-South at the time.

Wike also recalled visiting George’s residence in Maitama, Abuja, after the PDP national convention in an attempt to settle the disagreement. He said the visit became tense before the intervention of former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko.

The minister further accused George of failing to deliver electoral victories for the PDP in Lagos State despite his long years of involvement in the party.

Wike said George’s political record in Lagos did not justify his continued criticism of other party leaders. He also referred to election results from George’s former polling unit to support his claim that the PDP had struggled to win under his influence.

The FCT Minister said political leadership should be judged by the ability to build support and win elections rather than by a person’s title, reputation or status as a founding member of a political party.
He maintained that George had not demonstrated the political strength needed to lead the PDP successfully, particularly in Lagos State.

Wike also linked George’s alleged frustration to the emergence of Deji Doherty as a key figure in the PDP structure in Lagos. He claimed that George was unhappy with Doherty’s position within the party.

The minister accused the former PDP chieftain of repeatedly appearing on television platforms to express his views about the party and its leadership.
Wike said he would continue to respond to George whenever necessary, adding that the ongoing disagreement was connected to George’s previous ambition to lead the PDP nationally.

The latest exchange adds to the growing disagreements among PDP leaders as the party continues to deal with internal divisions and preparations for the 2027 general elections.
